What is Upper Cervical Care?
Upper Cervical Care is a unique system of finding and correcting nerve interference (subluxation) in the upper neck area.
Upper Cervical Care focuses on the intimate relationship between the first two bones in the neck, called the Upper Cervical Spine, and a vital portion of the nervous system, known as the brain stem. This relationship is essential to the body’s ability to preserve and restore health.
Think of the brain stem as the control center that extends down an opening in the base of your skull, making it vulnerable to injuries or irritation around the upper neck. The brain stem works like a telephone cable with thousands of individual wires or nerve fibers sending signals back and forth between the brain and spinal cord to every cell, organ and system in the body. Every nerve impulse between the brain and the body must pass through the brain stem. The nervous system is responsible for all communication within the body. It controls your immune system, emotions, vision, hearing, balance, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, muscle tension, posture, hormones, and every other function.
Irritation or pressure within the central nervous system can interrupt communication between the brain and the body, thus creating a variety of health problems. The top two vertebrae, the Atlas and Axis, are especially vulnerable to injury or misalignment because they are the most mobile segments of the spine. If neglected, an Upper Cervical misalignment can lead to irreversible spinal degeneration and chronic ill health. Upper Cervical misalignments can be caused by falls, auto accidents, sports, job injuries, concussions, physical or emotional stress, poor posture, or even birth trauma.
What is Subluxation?
In order to answer "What is subluxation" let's break the word apart. The word “Subluxation” comes from the Latin words meaning “to dislocate” (luxare) and “somewhat or slightly” (sub). A subluxation means a slight dislocation (misalignment) or biomechanical malfunctioning of the vertebrae (the bones of the spine).
These disturbances may irritate nerve roots and the blood vessels which branch off from the spinal cord between each of the vertebrae.
This irritation may cause pain and dysfunction in muscle, lymphatic and organ tissue, as well as neurologic imbalance in the normal body processes.
What causes a Subluxation?
A fall, injury, sudden jar, trauma, or sometimes an inherited spinal weakness can displace a vertebra. Other causes include improper sleeping conditions or habits, poor posture, occupational hazards, incorrect lifting practices, obesity, lack of rest and exercise, and stress.
How is a Subluxation Corrected?
Doctors of Chiropractic are specialists in neuromusculoskeletal conditions. They are trained to restore the misaligned vertebrae to their proper position in the spinal column. They do this manually, utilizing the chiropractic procedure known as “spinal adjustment”. Your chiropractor, in most cases, will use his or her hands in applying corrective pressure to the spine in a specific direction and location. The manual force or thrust helps restore the alignment and mobility of the vertebrae. In some cases, the chiropractor may use instrumentation to detect subluxations and adjust the spine.
Have You Had Your Neck Checked?
Did you know that a misalignment in your upper neck, more specifically at the atlas and axis, is preventing your body from being able to function at an optimal level thereby decreasing your body’s ability to heal itself?
Many problems that you feel and experience are possibly due to this interference in your neck. Even if you are symptom free, if you have this misalignment you are not functioning at the optimum level.
Welcome and congratulations on taking the first step towards becoming a healthier you! You may think that you are already a very healthy person, but did you know that you may have nervous system interference at the level of your brainstem that is keeping your body from being able to function at its optimum level?
This interference is often present before any pain or symptoms arise. Upper Cervical Healthcare is a simple yet very specific way to get rid of this interference, which allows the body's innate ability to heal itself.
I became an Upper Cervical Doctor for one reason; it made sense. With the use of objective tests and specific X-Rays I can actually see any misalignment that may be present and exactly which direction and angle to make a specific correction.
By delivering a precise correction and restoring proper nervous system function, I expect each patient to respond, as their body's innate desire to take care of itself is no longer impaired. Please contact us to find out more and schedule your initial consultation absolutely FREE! I look forward to helping you restore your health!
